About Us
South Bristol Sports Centre is a charity and as such, is run for the promoting of sport facilities within the local community.
It is a not-for-profit organisation which will re-invest any surplus to support its core objectives.
One of the main aims is to create a sports centre to offer school children and people living in the local community the chance to participate in a variety of sports. With a lack of sports facilities available for local schools, the project will encourage increased usage. Delivered through a partnership between the City Council and a not-for-profit led consortium led by the City Academy Bristol. Funding for the project comes from a mixture of council, consortium and Barclays Spaces for Sport fund.
The project has been granted for an initial 25-year lease and will manage and run the premises, taking all responsibility for ongoing maintenance. The ground was inherited by the city council in 2000 as part of a planning deal when some of the former Imperial Tobacco Sports Ground was sold off to be developed for housing. Since then the site has been costing some £80,000 a year to maintain and run.
